Description: This course is an introduction to the development of western art from the Prehistoric era through the Roman period. Emphasis is on ancient Near Eastern, Egyptian, Greek, and Roman cultures. Comparisons are made with other cultures. The class is conducted as a seminar in which students give at least one oral presentation and write a minimum of 6,000 words, including at least two art historical analyses and one research paper.
