Fall semester 2009 online and telecourse class information....

** Sociology 321: Race, Ethnicity & Inequality in the U.S. One telecourse section and one online section. NOTE -- these two classes have different orientation times as they are different classes in different modalities!!

and

** Sociology 310 / FCS 320: Sociology of Marriage and Family (online class)

and

** Sociology 300: Introduction to Sociology (online class -- section 29778)

The orientation for the ONLINE Soc. 321 (Race, Ethnicity and Inequality in the United States) class requires that you attend the following meeting -- Thursday, August 27 -- from 5:30 p.m. - 6:50 p.m. in Rodda North 228. Note that the exam meeting times for this class will be from 5:30p.m. - 6:50.m. on selected Thursday evenings (a total of 3 meetings in addition to the orientation meeting).

The orientation for the ONLINE Soc. 310 / FCS 320 (Sociology of Marriage and Family) online class requires that you attend the following meeting -- Wednesday, August 26 from 5 p.m. - 6:20 p.m. in Rodda North 229.

The orientation for the ONLINE Soc. 300 (Introduction to Sociology) class requires that you attend the following meeting -- Wednesday, August 26 from 6:30 p.m. - 7:50 p.m. in Rodda North 229. Note that the exam meeting times for this class will be on selected (weekday to be announced) evenings (a total of 3 meetings in addition to the orientation meeting).

Note that the exam meeting times for this class will be from 7 p.m. - 8:20 p.m. on selected Thursday evenings (a total of 3 meetings in addition to the orientation meetings).

PLEASE NOTE --

The orientation meetings for these class/es is/are REQUIRED!! Students who are pre-registered for one or all of these classes who do not attend the orientation meeting may be dropped from the class!! The orientation and a minimum of three additional on-campus meetings for exams are required for both of the Sociology 321 classes and the Sociology 300 class; these meetings times will be noted on the class syllabus available at the beginning of the semester. If there is a higher demand for "adds" than may be accommodated, a lottery system will be utilized at the first orientation meeting.

Looking to add one of these classes, but no room on the official waitlist?? Come to the scheduled orientation to be included in secondary waitlist. Being listed on either the primary or secondary waitlist is NOT a guarantee that you will be able to add the class!!

A note about online and distance education class structure.... While you will not be required to be online during specific hours, there are assignments and / or discussion boards due EVERY week!! If you are taking the telecourse format for Soc. 321, there is no requirement for online work as hard copies of written assignments are due each week (delivery mode to be discussed at orientation). I am flexible with how you schedule your time in this class during each week, however I am also a big fan of deadlines, and maintaining them for the purpose of fairness and academic rigor.

To log on to online class/es once you have officially registered with the college for the course/s (NOTE: online classes will not be available until the beginning of the semester) -- reference the online help for students Resources for Students Using Los Rios eLearning Desire2Learn (D2L) -- http://d2lresources.losrios.edu/
