Course Description This course covers operations in real estate: listing, prospecting, advertising, financing, sales techniques, escrow and ethics. This course applies toward educational requirements for a broker's examination.

Course Requirements/Assignments: Attendance is essential to your success in this course. Class sessions are devoted to instruction of new material and review of previous topics. You are responsible for material covered in lectures, assignments, handouts, classroom activities and any changes in assignments. You are expected to take notes in class. Homework assignments are listed in the attached class outline.

Class Methodology: Both lecture and class discussion will be used. Student questions and comments are encouraged. Discussion will consider theory, but when feasible practical ramifications will be emphasized. Depending on time and availability limitations, there may be an occasional guest speaker from the local real estate community. Questions may be posed to students to facilitate discussion. Students are expected to be present, prepared and willing to participate in class discussions. Lectures will normally follow the course text assignments, but will occasionally include supplemental information when deemed relevant.

Real Estate Business Plan: An important part of the Real Estate Profession for agents and brokers is to learn how to understand and develop a business plan. Each student will be required to develop a simple business plan for themselves that will set income goals, budget for expenses, identify their target market and the steps they will follow to meet their goals. The purpose of this Business Plan will be for the student to learn what the requirements are for them to become financially successful in the Real Estate industry. Each student will be required to complete a 2 - 5 page Real Estate Business Plan All students must have this Business Plan completed and submitted by Thursday, December 1, 2005.

Midterm/Final Exams: There will be 2 midterm exams and a comprehensive final exam for this class. These exams will include all material covered in the class to the date shown in the attached class outline. Make up exams without penalty will be given only in the most extreme and compelling circumstances.

SCANTRON 882: Each student will be required to have a SCANTRON 882 form for use during course examinations. These forms can be purchased at the college bookstore. Also, students will need a Number 2 Pencil to enter their answers on the SCANTRON 882 form.

Academic Dishonesty (cheating): Any indication of academic dishonesty (cheating) will result in a zero for the quiz, exam, assignment, etc. The matter will be referred to the Business Division Dean and Campus Discipline Officer for appropriate action.

Accommodations For Students With Disabilities: If you have a learning disability or a physical disability that requires accommodation, please let me know as soon as possible. All needs that have been verified through the Disability Resource Center will be accommodated.

Class Drop Policy: In the event, a student decides to drop the class it is the student’s responsibility to notify and complete all the necessary documentation with the admissions and records office.

Broadcast Channel: The class is broadcast on Comcast Channel 17 and SureWest Channel 17. The class will also be rebroadcast on Saturdays from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Comcast Channel 15 and SureWest Channel 21 and Charter Cable Channel 19. The rebroadcast on Saturdays will be the previous week’s class. It is recommended that you tape each broadcast. By doing so, you will be able to watch the class as many times as necessary to learn the material.

Students who would like to watch the broadcast from one of these locations should contact the center to make arrangements for viewing the broadcast at a specific outreach center.

Blackboard: In this course we will be using a course management tool called Blackboard. To connect to the Blackboard web site you will need to use a web browser like Microsoft Internet Explorer. The Uniform Resource Locator (URL) for the web site is shown below:

When you log in you will be asked for a username and password. Your username will consist of your student number and your password will be your date of birth. For example, your username is the letter w followed by your Student ID# or Employee ID#. Example: w0123456 and your default password is your birthday in the format: MMDDYYYY Example: If your birthday is June 12, 1974 then password = 06121974
The blackboard web site will be where you will take online quizzes, obtain copies of lab assignments, a copy of the course outline, etc.
Blackboard Email Account: We will be using email to communicate during the course. By default the class Blackboard Web Site will have an email account set to your username for you. Please change your default email address to your actual email address.

Blackboard Class Discussion Board: This class will have a Discussion Board called Students Helping Students. The Purpose of this discussion board is to provide a space for students to post questions and for other students to help them find answers and share knowledge and experience. Each student in this class will be required to log onto the Discussion Board and introduce themselves.

Video Tape Recording: All class lectures will be recorded by Instructional Television Staff and placed in the Learning Resource Center for students to view.

The final grade in this class will be based on the following points
