This course is designed for the student to examine the social, psychological, historical, and economic factors relating to changing family, marriage, remarriage, and significant relationship patterns. Exploration of changing gender roles, the meaning of love and sexuality, dating, communication skills, and parenting are included.
(Credit may be awarded for either SOC 310 or FCS 320.)

The VIDEO SERIES Our Families, Ourselves accompanies this course. You will view 18 professionally produced half-hour programs introducing key concepts and facts. Selected experts provide commentary.

Where to View Course Videos:

1. The series may be viewed:

Sacramento Comcast Cable Channel 15 (programs are broadcast Friday evenings at 8:00pm), or
Surewest Broadband Channel 99, or
ATT Broadband, or
at SCC's Instructional Media Center free of charge

2. DVDs of the series are available for rent from the Instructional Media Center at a
minimal charge, currently $20 per series for semester-length rental. Video rentals
must be processed in person at the Instructional Media Center.

ONLINE-CLASS Mandatory Orientation: Click on the ORIENTATIONS link for the meeting date and time. Be sure to view the demonstrations prior to our orientation.

In addition to the course orientation the students will complete the assigned reading, discussions, activities, exams, and participate online using Desire-2-Learn (D2L).
