LIBRARY TOUR INFORMATION

10 POINTS EXTRA CREDIT (one time only)

The librarians encourage you to use the online method for requesting a library orientation for your classes.  It's quick and easy!  The online request form http://www.scc.losrios.edu/~library/forms/CIRequest.htm will be monitored beginning August 17th.  Also, the new Drop-in orientation schedule for the Fall semester will be posted on the library web page August 23rd.

Please note that all library orientations begin September 5, 2006.

As in the past, there are two types of library orientations for the Fall 2006 semester that will target the diverse needs and busy schedules of SCC students and faculty:

  1. Customized orientations that are tailored to your pre-determined assignment or course objective.  Instructors attend these hands-on sessions with their classes during the regular class meeting time.  These orientations cover either searching for books, journal and magazine articles using the online databases or searching the Internet.  They are normally held in the LR220 classroom.
  2. Please visit the library web page http://www.scc.losrios.edu/~library/ to schedule a customized orientation for your class. (click on the link “Faculty Services”) or phone Stephanie McDonald (x2014).

  3. Drop-in workshops are offered throughout the semester, including evenings and Saturdays.  Students can sign up in advance to attend a 50-minute session on their own time.  They receive a "Proof of Attendance" slip after successfully completing the class and a worksheet that reinforces the lesson.

Please note this change: there are now 2 types of DROP-IN workshops held in LR220:

o       Section A: brief tour of the library, finding books on the computer, creating a PIN number to work from home, Interlibrary loan.

o       Section B: using the Research Databases to locate full-text magazine/journal/newspaper articles, citations and abstracts.

We will also be offering more ESL/basic level orientations on the Drop-in schedule!

In the past, many instructors have assigned the Drop-in workshops for extra credit or as part of the total grade.

All orientations begin after the 2nd week of classes
