COURSE OBJECTIVES: To provide a survey of the multicultural problems currently facing communities. Students will learn the concepts of human relations as applied to human dignity; role of the individual worker in encounters with citizen clients; challenges facing professionals in the field; and directions of future innovation and change.
REQUIRED TEXT: “Multicultural Law Enforcement” fourth Ed. Shusta, Levine, Wong, Harris
METHOD OF INSTRUCTION:
Lecture, required reading, visual aids and group exercises.

II. Grading:
A. Midterm Exams will be completed in essay form, Final Exams will be completed in multiple choice and True/False test form. Quizzes will require multiple-choice and True/False responses. The essay exams shall be written responses to course topics. Students will adequately develop and support their written responses in a well-organized and thoughtful (intelligent) manner.
Midterm: 100 Points
Final: 50 Points
Four Quizzes (50 pts each): 200 Points
Attendance: 100 Points
5 Assignments (10 points each): 50 Points
Total: 500 Points
B. Grade Points:
A= 450-500 Points 90%
B= 359-449 Points 80%
C= 251-358 Points 70%
D= 150-250 Points 60%
F= 0-149 Points
III. Attendance:
Students will be awarded 100 points for perfect attendance.
Students will lose 15 points for each hour they miss up to 45 points. He/She will lose 25 points for the 4th hour missed.
Students who submit assignments late will have scores docked 10-points for each day of late status. I do not accept assignments as email attachments.
Students arriving late to class are asked to avoid disruption by sitting near the entrance.
*Due to the disruption, students are reminded NOT to attend class if they are more than 15 minutes late to class
*On testing dates, quizzes will be offered during the second half of the class.
An academic hour (class) is 2 hours.
Students will lose attendance points for any absence (excused or unexcused)
The Instructor will drop a student who has more than 4 absences.
IV. Make-up Exams/Extra Credit:
Make-up exams and quizzes will be given only at the discretion of the Instructor and then only on the last day of the semester or at the time of the Final Exam. Students will be allowed to take ONE make-up quiz only. There is no make-up for midterms or final exams- you must submit a midterm and final to get a grade in the class. All make-up quizzes will require multiple-choice and True/False responses. Extra credit work is only at the discretion of the Instructor and only for those students who are failing the class even though they are making a sincere effort and have no attendance problems.
