(aka Patty, PJ, Professor Jenkinson, etc.)
"Although we've been 'communicating' for years, we're not always effective communicators. And there is no denying that effective communication is vital to success and enjoyment in our academic, personal, and professional lives."
PJ earned her Master's of Arts Degree in Communication Studies from California State University, Sacramento.
A tenured Communication professor at Sacramento City College, PJ also teaches as an adjunct professor at CSU Sacramento (Communication Studies Department).
She enjoys sharing her knowledge of and enthusiasm for the field of Communication with anyone who will listen to her. You'll often hear her extolling the virtues of ...
- public speaking - "If people are going to have to listen to you speak formally in public (and they will), at least acquire the skills and experience to keep them interested!"
- interpersonal communication - "Most of our time spent communicating is in interpersonal relationships, communicating more effectively interpersonally should dramatically improve the quality of your life!"
- argumentation - "Critical thinking is a must! And you will always have to advance and support an argument, even if it's just 'The Sacramento Kings are a better basketball team than the LA Lakers.'"
- group communication - "Everyone involved in groups--at work, at home, at play--needs to learn to work effectively in a group setting. Learning effective group communication skills will significantly enhance your (and others') satisfaction when working together."
- persuasion - "We are bombarded with persuasive messages, and we bombard others with persuasive messages. Become a more critical consumer of persuasion and learn to ethically use persuasive techniques yourself."
