I have just updated the syllabi for SOC 300 and SOC 375 for Spring 2009. Nich Miller will be teaching the SOC 301 online class, and will post the syllabus at Nich Miller.

SCC's newest online Sociology class, Introduction to Community Development, has been taught for two semesters and will be offered again this Spring. This is a project-based class designed for two groups. The first is individuals who want to learn the skills to address a problem they find compelling (from issues that only affect specific segments of the population, such as domestic violence, illiteracy, and substance abuse, to issues that affect everyone, such as environmental destruction, global unrest, and the threat to our food supply). The second group being addressed is professionals and paraprofessionals working in government agencies or non-profit organizations who would like to build on their ability to create change. Each student selects a project, and interacts online with me and their fellow students to create innovative approaches that draw on both personal experience and the research that has been conducted on successful interventions. Details are a click away on the SOC 375 link below.

Welcome to Tonie Hilligoss' Sociology webpage, with links to the Spring 2009 Sociology 300 Online Syllabus and the Sociology 375 Online Syllabus. Both syllabi were current when posted, but revisions can be made at any time prior to the first day of the semester. An up-to-date syllabus for each class will be available on its Blackboard site, which will be accessible to all enrolled students by January 16, 2009 at Blackboard. If you would like to contact me, I can be reached at thilligoss@mac.com or (916) 558-2602. If I'm not available, please leave a message and I'll make every effort to get back to you as soon as possible. Just leave your first and last name and repeat the number where you can be contacted. If you contact me by e-mail, please include your student I.D. number. I check my e-mail much more often than my voicemail during the break, so that is the fastest way to contact me.

Enjoy the rest of the semester and the break that follows, and I'll look forward to meeting you in January!
