Fall 2007 - We are embarking on an expanded use of Acrobat to make interactive handouts. An early conversion is available as the Excel Gradebook handout. With Reader v7 or higher, you can add comments and markups. Check it out at http://scc.losrios.edu/~instrdev/ett/gradebook/gradebook_handout.pdf.
I've been using Acrobat since 1995 to enhance publishing projects and create other personal utilties (most often to avoid a typewriter).
I'm excited to report that our librarians are using Acrobat in their Electronic Reserves project. Macintosh OS X users can print any document as a .pdf file. Acrobat is catching on at SCC.
Acrobat creates documents for delivery to all computer users - Windows, Macintosh and Linux. In addition to interactive publications, Acrobat documents can be online forms.
Under the Educational Initiative, I teamed up with Jane Woo, Articulation Officer, to create an electronic version of the Educational Plan document counselors use when meeting with students.
That project spawned interest by other departments in the personal utilities I've created. Now a small team is looking at how I adapted the Travel Authorization and Purchase Requisition forms. My adaption is truely a "bandaid" and very funky. But it works for me. Perhaps our team will be able to demonstrate the effectiveness of Acrobat for other staff across our organization.
Example forms:
Replace the typewriter - page one is a scanned image of the form, print page two & three to the blank NCR form:
Download a copy of these forms if you have Acrobat Standard/Pro on your computer. Acrobat Reader will let you fill out a form then print but not save the form data.
On campus we have access to a site license for all Adobe software. Consider buying your computer a license for Acrobat (Photoshop and In Design ...) to help you be more productive and creative.
