Bb - Handling Incompletes in Courses

Only students completing the course should see the course link when they log in to Blackboard.

  1. Download the current gradebook as an Excel file - master gradebook will be your participation and grade documentation
  2. Print the records of students with incompletes - from the gradebook view, click on the student's name
  3. Before you make the class "available" for students to finish their work, you'll either block students (who finished) or remove them -- this prevents this old class from showing up on when successful students log in.
  4. Make the course available for the incompletes to be finished
  5. Email the students so they can resume working
  6. At the end of the term (or one year) download the gradebook for the incompletes and merge the info into the master gradebook

I think removing the successful students from this archive class will be less work for you than blocking them.
Remove Users From This Course > Search ... (don't enter any criteria to see all the names) ... mark a check at each name but the incompletes.

Blocking students is one name at a time - List/Modify Users > Search .. (don't entry any criteria) and then for each name to be blocked, hold the SHIFT key down while clicking on the Modify button (this forces a new window to open for this student). On this page, scroll down and mark NO on Available this Course Only. Click Submit. Close the receipt window and go to the next student name.
