This page will report findings as we use Bb v 7.1 after December 2006. As of January 16, 2007 our flavor of the Blackboard Academic Suite is Release 7.1.467.0
Sometimes you will need to log out of Bb, quit/exit your browser and then log back in to refresh your settings. Remember to contact the BB Help Desk by phone to work through issues on evenings and weekends.
When troubleshooting computer hardware, software and connections it is critical to know about your setup:
Melissa's testing computers are
Mac Mini OS X 10.4, Safari 2.0.4, Firefox 1.5.0.9
Windows XP Pro 2002 SP2 on a Pentium 4; Firefox 1.5.0.9
Home ISP is Comcast
Windows users, here is info on Internet Explorer 7:
District PC Users,
Please be aware that Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) is now available on the Microsoft web site for downloading, and will soon be automatically included in Microsoft Automated Updates (if you have that featured turned on). Though IE7 has some nice and attractive new features, as a “new” piece of web software it might, for a time, behave unexpectedly while accessing certain web-based applications. For this reason, discretion should be used in the downloading of this product if your tolerance for application “anomalies” is low.
The Los Rios Blackboard and Peoplesoft applications are both web-based applications. Though we have information that indicates Blackboard and Peoplesoft should support IE7 (see below) there are still certain caveats for each. DO IT has performed basic Peoplesoft testing (in HE and FS) with IE7 and have encountered no problems yet. The Blackboard Administrators are now testing Blackboard with IE7 and should be reporting their results soon. There are of course many other web applications that we can not report on at this time. So for now…use your discretion.
Oracle/PeopleSoft support for Microsoft Internet Explorer 7
IE 7 should be available from Microsoft in Q4 as an automated update. Oracle has been working with the beta product and hasn’t encountered any problems, but formal testing has to be completed on the GA product once it has been released. Oracle hopes to complete that testing and certify the product soon after Microsoft’s release date. The current plan is to test those products that are currently in Oracle's testing environments which are PeopleTools 8.22 and 8.46-8.48. It is fully expected that Oracle will certify IE 7 on these versions.
Blackboard Academic Suite support for Internet Explorer 7 Symptoms:
Blackboard Quality Assurance has tested Internet Explorer 7 and rated it as compatible with the Blackboard Academic Suite.
With Release 6, Application Pack 3 and Release 7 of the Blackboard Academic Suite, end users must add the Blackboard Academic Suite server to their list of trusted sites in Internet Explorer 7. If the Blackboard Academic Suite is not in the list of trusted sites, the Visual Text Box Editor will not function correctly. The formatting and content controls will appear, but the text box itself will appear broken.
This issue does not impact Application Pack 1 for Release 7 and later releases. Users running Application Pack 1 for Release 7 will not experience any problems with the Visual Text Box Editor related to Internet Explorer 7.
Thank you,
Brian Roach
Director, Technical Services at Los Rios Community College District
There are two places to add blackboard.losrios.edu as a "trusted site" (aka "allowed site") in Firefox on a Windows computer. Go to the Tools menu > Options >
- Privacy > Cookies > check Allow sites to add cookies then click the Exceptions button and enter blackboard.losrios.edu then click the Allow button then click the Content option ...
- Content > check to block pop-ups but click the Exceptions button and add blackboard.losrios.edu to the list
