Travel Tips for F-1/F-2  Students

Continuing students who are planning to travel outside the U.S. must be maintaining status to use your current SCC SEVIS I-20 for written SCC International Advisor signature.  Less than <12 units?  Make an immediate academic + immigration options counseling appointment.

(1) Verify that the information on your I-20 is correct (i.e., major of study).  If not, request an up-to-date “travel” I-20, giving college new student educational planner; processing time of 15 days to get your new electronic I-20 Form for your student signature and from International Advisor.

(2) Remember to start early by having your SEVIS I-20~Page 3 signed by SCC International Advisor. Tell us what information needs to be updated.  Your Major, Name, and Address must all be the same, matching your U.S. Visa Page and I-20.

(3) Inside your passport, check date on your U.S. Visa page (stamped in your passport) to be sure that it is valid for additional return entries.  Only thru traveling, you will have to apply at U.S. Embassy/Consulate outside U.S. for renewing visa date—it takes time.  Always check latest U.S. Embassies & Consulates calendar abroad:
http://usembassy.state.gov/    www.travel.state.gov

(4) Expired visa date?  Bring all transcripts, updated financial documentation, verification of enrollment, and a valid passport.  Continuing student requesting “initial” I-20 (ask International Advisor) must have paper receipt for payment of SEVIS I-901 fee.

(5) Your passport should be valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of your expected stay.

(6) Department of Homeland Security/ICE offers the following recommendations for students.  HAND CARRY (do not check) THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS:
