If you want to explore very large websites, you can search one of the sites below. These sites have a lot of different links that cover many different skills, interests, types of information, and activities.

Large ESL Websites by Colleges & Professional Organizations

 

http://iteslj.org/links/  This site, by Teachers of English as a Second Language is one of the best.  It has hundreds of links covering almost all skills (reading, writing, grammar, pronunciation, etc.)  It is well organized and easy to find what you want.

 

 

http://www.manythings.org This site has over 700 pages of exercises, grammar and writing practices, games, jokes, quizzes at beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels.  To see the long list, go to:  http://www.manythings.org/sitemap.html

 

 

http://a4esl.org This site contains quizzes for students of English as a second language, covering grammar, vocabulary, idioms, and other topics.

"OWL", the Online Writing Lab from Purdue University, has writing activities, printable handouts, grammar practices, and a very long list of links for more study. 

 

http://academic.cuesta.edu/ahalderma/ESL.htm  This site has links to many ESL sites that provide useful information, lessons, exercises, and games.

Large Commercial ESL Websites

Because these sites are commercial, some have a lot of advertising.

http://www.rong-chang.com/ This is a very large reference site that contains dozens of links.  In the green box on the left of the screen, click on the blue, underlined topics (listening, writing, quizzes, grammar, vocabulary, etc.).  Each underlined topic will take you to a long list of many other links.

 

http://english-zone.com/index.php A VERY LARGE site to practice grammar, reading, verbs, idioms, spelling, pronunciation and writing skills.  It also has study skills, vocabulary, conversation practices, games, and links.

 

http://eslcafe.com Dave’s ESL Café is well known.  It has exercises and quizzes to work with idioms, grammar, pronunciation, slang, and much more.  (Lots of advertisements)

 

 

http://www.englishpage.com Here you can work on grammar, reading, and listening.

 

 

http://www.englishclub.com At this site you can practice grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, listening, speaking, reading, and writing.  There are also links to games, quizzes, business English, sample tests, and jokes.

 

 

http://www.chompchomp.com Lots of exercises, printable handouts, tips, and rules.  (Click on the words “Grammar Bytes” to begin.)

 

 

http://www.grammarbook.com  Writing, grammar, and punctuation, exercises and quizzes.

 

 

http://buckhoff.topcities.com/index.html  Writing, spelling, and grammar exercises at this commercial site.

 

 

http://www.smic.be/smic5022/  Designed for students who are not in the U.S., this site provides online lessons and exercises covering vocabulary, grammar, reading comprehension, and dictation. Also features interactive quizzes and exercises. It includes related links for English language learners, and it is searchable.
