The Language of Literature is a site for advanced level readers.  It has exercises, vocabulary, information on authors, and links to additional literary sites.  http://classzone.com/lol_demo/9/demo/9_1/index.htm

 

Education World has a collection of reading lists used all over the U.S.  Lists are organized by grade levels and give a short summary of each book.  http://www.education-world.com/summer_reading

 

 

American Authors on the Web is a list of over 100 links to literature and poetry sites and guides, many from universities.

American Literature on the Web has links organized by Genre, Period, Timeline, Author, Related Resources, Visual Arts, and Social Contexts.  It is searchable, or you can browse the alphabetical lists.

Literary Resources on the Net.  An excellent site from Rutgers University.  The entries are current, searchable, and annotated.

Modern American Poets  Poets are in alphabetical order with links to their poems, background of the poet analyses, interviews, and additional external links.  A scholarly site from University of Illinois. http://www.english.uiuc.edu/maps/poets.htm

 

Classic Reader has over 3,000 classic short stories, non-fiction, drama, poetry, and books.  All are available to read free, but some functions require registration.  http://www.classicreader.com/

 

 

Litrix Reading Room has hundreds of classic books by American authors.  All of the books are available in full text, free.  The site is searchable by title, author, or genre.  http://www.litrix.com/readroom.htm    

 

 

The Norton Anthology of American Literature covers American Literature from the 1820s to the present.  It is designed for student use and has quizzes, outlines, summaries, timeline, questions, projects, and additional links.  http://www.wwnorton.com/naal/
