What you need to know about SPAN Hybrid Courses Spring 2010:
There are 2 types of class meetings for hybrid courses:
Face to Face (F2F): the time spent together in the classroom (Wednesdays 12:00-2:05pm for SPAN 401 and Mondays 2:15-4:20pm for SPAN 402). Class time will be spent primarily working in group and paired activities to practice grammar and vocabulary. Class time will not be
spent with the professor lecturing about grammar structures; instead
you are expected to study those items on your own with the textbook
and on-line materials. If there are items you do not understand,
there will be time to ask questions or request more examples. If you
find that you learn best by having someone explain grammar to you, then you
should be prepared to spend time with a tutor in the Learning Resource Center,
visiting your professor during office hours or enroll in a different
course.
Virtual day: the on-line component that has replaced the traditional class period for that day. The on-line components you will need to use are: - Plazas electronic textbook (e-book) - on-line workbook (iLearn/QUIA) - Desire2learn (D2L website)
This Spanish 401 & 402 courses require the same amount of work as a regular course. In addition to the 2 hours a week in the classroom, 2 hours of online classwork per week is required. Furthermore, homework equivalent to 2 hours per week for every hour of classwork is required. You will find a list of assignments on D2L and iLrn/QUIA.
Students are required to attend a mandatory orientation. Date and time TBA.
