302Orientation

Welcome to Online English 302

You MUST attend an orientation session even if you are pre-enrolled in the class. Bring a photo I.D., proof of registration, and proof that you have fulfilled the prerequisites for English 302: a transcript showing a passing grade of “C” or better in English 300 OR an assessment printout placing you in 300, OR a signed counselor verification form indicating preparedness for the course. If you took English 300 at a college outside the Los Rios District, make sure to meet with a counselor before our orientation to obtain the verification form. No student will be permitted to stay in the class without these items. Also, bring your email address and be prepared to identify the type of browser and word processor you’ll be using during the semester.

At the orientation, I’ll introduce you to the class website and provide registered students the password necessary to access the site. Then you’ll participate in some activities to familiarize you with the skills, software, and know-how necessary to succeed in this online course. However, be forewarned: If you have no experience using email, sending attachments, using Web browsers or a word processor, you should not attempt this class. Finally, you will write a diagnostic essay in the computer lab and email it to me.

Make sure to arrive on time and with the necessary documents. If you arrive late or come without the paperwork, your spot may well have already been given to someone trying to add the class. Besides the orientation session, the class will meet on campus for a proctored midterm examination (time to be announced later), and each student will meet with me for an individual conference. If you’d like to get an early start, our only textbook is The Well-Crafted Argument by White and Billings. Make sure to buy a new copy because it includes your individual NETTUTOR passkey—you may not take this class with the NETTUTOR service. You may also to get your SCC access card, which you’ll need to use the LRC’s Online Databases during the semester.

This site is using the SCC Poppy theme.
