Psychology Department

About Me

Originally from New Jersey, I earned my undergraduate degree in clinical psychology (minoring in women's studies) at Tufts University. Graduate school brought me to California; I earned my master's and my doctorate in clinical psychology at the California School of Professional Psychology, Alameda, where I specialized in the psychology of women.  I did a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of San Francisco, and I came to Sacramento City College in 2001.

I am currently teaching Psychology 340 (Abnormal Behavior) and Psychology 360 (Psychology of Women), and I often teach Psychology 300 (General Principles). I also offer an experimental class called "Psychology of Sexual Orientation." In my classes, my goal is to challenge students academically, yet to also create a dynamic and creative learning environment. Learning should always be fun!

What do I do in my spare time? My daughter, Rowan, who was born in January 2008, brings me tremendous joy - and leaves me with very little spare time! I really enjoy spending time with my family. I am a voracious reader, with my interests ranging from mysteries to biographies, from psychological memoirs to historical novels. I like to knit, although lately I haven't made the time for it. I enjoy being active, particularly hiking, bicycling, and swimming. I love puzzles, particularly Sudoku puzzles, cryptograms, and the Sunday New York Times crossword puzzle. And I enjoy listening to many types of music - world music, alternative rock, classical, even some 80s music!

Teaching here at Sacramento City College is a joy to me. I truly believe that, here at Sacramento City College, you are receiving an education that is unparalleled.
