Welcome To Manila

It's All About the Content!

The title of this manual, "It's All About the Content!" establishes the focus for both the web development process you are about to begin and the training you are attending. Another way we think about Manila Web Development can be summarized in this phrase: "It's about the shortest distance between your ideas and 'WOW!'"

For our purposes at SCC, it is a content management process we will be using to help faculty, departments, and campus services create and maintain webpages. Webpages on the Manila server can be edited from home, from your office, or from any place you have an Internet connection.

We know there is quite a learning curve for technology, let alone creating websites. And we suspect you don't have a team of writers, designers and editors to maintain your web sites. So, when we learned about a web-based approach using ADA-accessible pre-designed templates, with familiar word processing tools, it sounded like a winner.

This manual is designed to work as a supplement in a training session, not a complete training document in and of itself. Also, we know we can't have addressed all of the possible permutations here (e.g. are there differences if you're using Netscape on a Macintosh computer). If you find any jarring differences, please bring it to our attention and we'll try to address them in the next edition of this manual.

You may have some questions about if your computer skills are up to the task of working with Manila, or if you can use a previously-created website, or how to handle ADA-accessibility issues. If so, flip to the appendices in this manual; chances are you will find the answers to these and other vitally important questions.

And now... let the fun begin!

... a work in progress ...
