Planning
If you are considering offering Service-Learning (S. L.) in a course, contact Service-Learning coordinator Pam Flaherty at 650-2940 or by email at flaherp@scc.losrios.edu to discuss scheduling Service-Learning. Individual consultation will be provided to help you plan, find placements for your students and integrate appropriate assignments into your course.
Flex activities include ideas and examples for planning and networking resources to support your efforts.
Tips:
All Service-Learning courses must be approved by the Service-Learning coordinator and the area dean.
INDIS 340 is the one unit Service-Learning course that students will sign up for in conjunction with your designated Service-Learning course.
Once a Service-Learning course is identified you will need to add INDIS 340 to your course load during course scheduling with your department chair.
You will be required to
- Submit a Service-Learning course proposal contract for each Service-learning course you teach. Request contracts from the S.L. coordinator.
- Provide Service-Learning requirements in your syllabus.
- Submit Service-learning grades at the end of the course on your Socrates INDIS340 roster.
Resources
Contact the Service-learning coordinator for resources to help you integrate Service-Learning into your courses. Information for placements, curriculum ideas, requirements, scheduling and much more is available by request. Plan early. Placements must often be established and S.L. courses scheduled by the S.L. coordinator the semester before a course is offered.
