STEP A: Choose a Major
Choose or declare a
major as soon as possible. Many four-year institutions may require
students to complete courses in the major at the community college
level prior to transfer.
Resources are available to help determine a major through the Career Center or take a Human Career Development course.
STEP B: Identify a College or University
Depending
on the major or career objective, choosing the right campus is
important. Learning about different colleges or universities can help
make the deciding easier. Visit the Transfer Center to view catalogs,
videos and DVDs to learn about different colleges. Online resources can also enhance the college search.
STEP C: Meet with a Counselor
Meet with a counselor
to ensure transfer success. Planning is crucial to taking the correct
classes, identifying a major and attending the college or university of
choice. Develop a professional association with a counselor to answer
questions, discuss plans or goals and mentor through the transfer
process.
STEP D: Visit and Apply
If
possible, visit the campus you would like to attend. The Transfer
Center does sponsor trips to a variety of four-year institutions as
resources permit. Events
such as Transfer Day invite representatives from different colleges and
universities for students to ask questions and learn more about each
campus. During the year, some universities invite students and their
families to the campus and introduce them to the school.
Apply
on time! It is crucial to apply on time to colleges and universities.
Depending on the quarter or semester, the application deadlines may be
up to a year in length. Many colleges and universities have reached
maximum enrollments, so it is important to apply on time. Apply on time!
